Bloodwork Services for Pets

A simple method used to diagnose and treat ailments in pets.

Bloodwork is a diagnostic tool which allows us to better understand your pet’s internal health, sometimes before they start experiencing symptoms. Whether your pet’s bloodwork is a part of their regular wellness exam, if they’re changing their monthly parasite preventive or they’ll be going under anesthesia, our team will support your pet to ensure the process is as painless as possible.

Why does my pet need bloodwork?

Bloodwork is often part of your pet’s wellness exam. Since furry friends tend to age at a much faster rate than humans, it’s important to regularly check your pet for any abnormalities that can be an early sign of a health concern. If your pet is new to our hospital, bloodwork can help us create a baseline of their health so we can develop wellness plans that support their individual needs. Bloodwork can tell us things like how well their internal organs are working, the strength of their immune system or any potential diseases. If your pet has symptoms like fever, vomiting, diarrhea or loss of appetite, we can suggest bloodwork to provide an accurate diagnosis.

What types of tests do you run?

A common test we run during your furry family member’s wellness visit is a Complete Blood Count (CBC). This gives us lots of information about your pet’s overall health. We might also run this test if your pet has an upcoming surgery or if they have an unexplained sickness. This helps detect:

  • Hydration levels
  • Infections
  • Anemia
  • Health abnormalities
  • Bleeding disorders
  • Immune system responsiveness

Do I need to prepare for my pet’s bloodwork?

Our veterinary team will provide you with clear instructions on how you need to prepare your pet, which can include fasting before we take their blood. We try to make the process as seamless and pain-free as possible, taking blood from areas like the neck or leg. If you have questions about your pet’s upcoming bloodwork, please contact us at 705-476-3913.
